WHY PERILOUS LANDINGS ?
Tony Grant and Geoffrey Grant (2006) are Associate Members of the Glider
Pilot
Regimental Association. He and his twin brother are the sons of the late
Flight Sergeant Geoffrey Grant who as a Royal Air Force Glider Pilot, was
killed on OPERATION VARSITY 1945. Sadly, they never knew their father.
Tony took early retirement to further his interest in filmmaking taking
his hobby to professional levels. It was always his dream to make a
documentary about the unique Glider Pilot Regiment. Formed under the
direct orders of Winston Churchill in 1942. One of Britains shortest lived
regiments but perhaps one of its most gallant, one third of its strength
killed, collecting 123 awards for gallantry and being mentioned in
dispatches sixty-four times.
Unfortunately these dreams have not become a reality as funding was not
possible. How ever some 24 hours of interviews took place and some of these film clips are now included on this web site. All the others will be added in due course.
I made these clips in 2000 and 2005 with the view to make a much longer documentary for the G.P.R.A. However this was not to be. I show the first few of the many interviews I made with the hope that family, friends and colleagues of those interviewed will enjoy whatching and listening. I have
added a little archive along with my own re-enactment clips to bring the stories of thes brave men to life, I respect copyright and hope, that in this, non profit making exercise I am excused..
